Although we have our own wonderful tulip festival right here in Michigan with Holland's annual Tulip Time, visiting Skagit Valley's tulip fields is an incredibly different experience! Just imagine the pictures you've likely seen of tulip fields in the Netherlands: solid color block rows of vibrant tulips that stretch on for miles. At the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in the state of Washington, you'll be able to see the same thing along with beautiful display gardens, and you can even celebrate this beautiful flower!

This tulip festival is a prime opportunity for novice and professional photographers alike, so participate on a guided photography tour and see the best sights that these sprawling fields have to offer! Of course, if you don't want to pay for a guided tour, just explore on your own and snap some amazing pics, but guided tours may give you access to some areas that are restricted to the general public! You can also order your own bulbs so you can enjoy your favorite tulips at home!For the Kids Though the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival involves a lot of walking and taking the time to stop and smell the flowers, you shouldn't be discouraged from bringing the kids along! There are plenty of activities available for younger visitors to participate in, including the Tulip Run where kids 14 and under run for free. There is usually a day during the festival where La Conner's children's museum offers free admission too. During walking tours, give the kids a camera and make a fun scavenger hunt out of it and they'll have fun appreciating the blooms!
WHEN TO VISIT
Although the tulip festival runs from April 1st
- April 30th
, you don't have to visit Skagit Valley during this time to enjoy all the beauty that the area has to offer. Bloom dates depend on a variety of factors, so a visit later or earlier can be just as rewarding (and a lot less crowded!) In 2015, La Conner also started the Daffodil Festival, which is held in March if you'd like to visit earlier in the spring and enjoy other flowers! Use their handy bloom map
