Not all campgrounds are created equal. Some are just, well, campgrounds. Some are so horrible you will want to leave right away and never come back. But then there are the ones that leave you speechless. They’re in a beautiful area, offer great amenities, feature perfect sites, and you won’t ever want to leave. These are the amazing campgrounds we’ve found that have a “Wow!” factor to them.
Corinth Recreation Area | Double Springs, Alabama
Located in Bankhead National Forest, which is known for its abundant streams, rich forests, and limestone bluffs with lush canyons, Corinth Recreation Area is a gorgeous place to camp and play. With large pull- though sites that have level asphalt pads for RVs, electricity, water, and sewer hookups, you’ll be sure to find peace and quiet. Corinth Recreation Area offers restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, an ice machine, and they allow pets! While you’re at the park you can use the boat ramp, participate in one of the educational programs, get in some fishing, hiking, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, or water skiing. While you camp you can head through the Bankhead National Forest which is great for bird watching, horseback riding, or visiting Bee Branch which is a 500-year-old poplar tree that is 150-feet tall! If you want to relax in natural beauty, just pack a picnic and head out to see the many waterfalls in the forest.
Imagination Mountain | Cosby, Tennessee
The 85 sites at Imagination Mountain range in amenities. Some sites have full hookups including cable, while others offer just water and electric. You can reserve a stream-side site, a premium site, or an economy site. There is something for every budget. If beauty is what you’re looking for, we’ve found it at Watkins Glen State Park! Here you’ll find remarkable gorges, 200-foot cliffs, and 19 different waterfalls. The park has over 300 campsites to choose from as well as modern restrooms with showers, a dump station, food concessions, a gift shop, picnic tables, grills, a swimming pool, kiddie pool, playgrounds, and firewood for sale. If you can pull yourself away from the jaw-dropping scenery, you will find that nearby you can go antiquing, biking, boating, golfing, shopping, and dining.
Santee Lakes Reservation Preserve | Santee, California

We couldn’t leave off our home state of Michigan and one of the best campgrounds “the mitten” has to offer. Located along gorgeous Lake Michigan, Ludington State Park offers beautiful accommodations and a lot to do. Since this city isn’t a huge tourist area, it offers a serene area to relax and enjoy yourself. You can rent a boat and venture out onto “the Big Lake” for a day filled with swimming, fishing, and relaxing. Or stay on land and partake in hiking, hunting, metal detecting, the nature programs, wildlife viewing, and touring Big Sable Point Lighthouse. The park offers four different camping areas, each with their own charm. The Beechwood, Pines, and Cedar Campgrounds offer electrical services and modern restrooms, while the Jack Pine Hike-In sites are rustic with no amenities. You can’t even drive to them, as the name implies.
